HDTV

The only way to watch television!

HDTV or High Definition Television is the new way to view your favorite television programs. It adds Dolby Digital surround sound to the brilliantly clear pictures. HDTV gives you the highest quality DTV resolution available. Mixing the audio and video is a winning combination.

HDTV will need new machines to show this technology. They are costly and after a few years will be easy to get.

The resolution is breathtaking. It boasts 720 or 1080 lines of resolution, which is much higher than the American standard of 525 lines or the 625 lines that are the European standard.

HDTV formats are 720p - 1280x720 pixels for progressive, 1080i - 1920x1080 pixels for interlaced, and 1080p - 1920x1080 pixels for progressive respectively.

Interlaced format will show everyone of the odd lines at one scan of the screen and then the even lines will show next. Because of the speed of thirty frames each second, you now have one-half of a frame within a 16th of a second.

Progressive scanning gives you the complete picture at one time. Each odd and even line is shown in a 16th of a second. You get a clearer picture and it appears to be much better than the regular images. The comparison between the interlaced and the progressive is different in the way the show is presented; it is very noticeable to the viewer.

High Definition Television shows images that have a higher detail to them giving you a sharper image altogether. Television pictures are thrown together by using pixels that are crammed together in red, green, and blue. Thus comes the abbreviation of RGB.

HDTV pixels are square and not round like others are. They are not as big and are closer together than the regular pixels. HDTV can cram 4.5 pixels in the space that one regular pixel fits into. This means that the HDTV has a detail that is 4.5 higher than the regular television.

Commonly asked is "How Do I Get The HDTV Signal?"
High Definition Television can only be received in certain areas by the use of is over-the-air signals. An outdoor antenna is the usual means of receiving this if you have it facing the right direction. You will need to get an HDTV receiver that can decode the signals it picks up. HDTV channels are not the same as the cable channels you receive now.

HDTV is getting more popular each year and will be rising to the occasion with more and more networks broadcasting.
